Servitization, as a strategic transformation, plays a vital role in organizational survival and competitive advantage; however, its requirements, capabilities, and outcomes in the context of knowledge-based firms (KBFs) and knowledge-intensive business services (KIBS) have been investigated in a less coherent and systematic manner, and the existing evidence regarding the relationship between servitization and firm performance remains mixed. The purpose of this study is to theoretically synthesize the literature in this domain and propose an integrated conceptual framework to explain the process of strategic servitization in knowledge-based firms, with particular attention to the context of emerging economies such as Iran. This study adopts a systematic-conceptual review approach and is conducted on the basis of the three-stage guideline proposed by Tranfield et al. (2003), the PRISMA 2020 reporting standards, and thematic synthesis logic. In total, 25 seminal international intersection of servitization, knowledge-based firms, and dynamic capabilities and synthesized at the thematic intersection of servitization, knowledge-based firms, and dynamic capabilities. The findings led to the identification of five core categories: five groups of drivers (technological, market, strategic, organizational, and environmental); seven key organizational capabilities centered on dynamic and digital capabilities; a four-stage implementation trajectory (exploration, deployment, integration, and transition toward service orientation); four managerial paradoxes; and the nonlinear, U-shaped effect of servitization on performance. Building on these findings, the integrated SERV-KBF conceptual framework was developed by combining the three resource-based, knowledge-based, and dynamic capability perspectives (RBV, KBV, and DC) into five structural blocks. By introducing the micro-mechanism of “knowledge bricolage” and formulating five research propositions (P1–P5), this study advances the servitization literature in the context of knowledge-based firms and offers actionable guidance for managing servitization paradoxes in emerging economies.
